Are some brands really better than others? Is Premium Dog Food Really Better? Yes is the answer to both questions, and it's also less expensive in the long run to feed premium food. Why? You use less of the Premium over time, for greater nutritional value, and in the end, save money. You also have less poop to clean up. Premium saves you money and time. See the details here: Good Dog Magazine, on line research on cost per feeding of dog food

We offer only two brands that we are confident give you value for the dollar you spend in terms of nutrition that meet good dog magazine's research. We are sure there are other deserving brands to offer but in lieu of researching them all, we just feel these two offer what our customer's need and deserve.

This is a short explanation of a very complicated subject on pet nutrition. We are not veterinarians, nor doctors, nor pet nutrition experts. However, what we explain below we have gathered from a lot of reading on the subject.
In their natural state, dogs and cats are carnivores. Which means, simply that they eat meat. Meat from prey. That prey may be small rodents, rabbits, squirrels, or birds, or larger mammals or fish. That leads many of us to think they need only meat or that meat should be the most important part of their diet. However, when the carnivore eats a prey, he eats all of it, or as much as he can: to be plain, and perhaps unpleasant, not just the flesh, but also the bones, the stomach, other organs, and the blood. In those other organs, including the blood and the stomach, and bones he consumes nutrients from any plant food the prey ate, and sometimes consumes undigested plants. And many of those prey do eat plants.
The plant nutrients are consumed when the wild carnivore eats all the animal -- So, plant nutrition is a part of the dog or cat's diet in the wild. It is important.
When we were young our Mother fed the family pets from table scraps. Today many in pet nutrition would tell you that represents an unhealthy, and un-balanced diet. And that's probably true, if you take the diet of many Americans today. But when we grew up our diet was heavy on whole grains, vegetables and fruits, and low on meat. And it was varied. Not the same thing every day. Somehow our pets lived a long, and healthy life with few, if any health problems, feeding on table scraps.
Also, some doctors, and nutrition experts will tell you that a synthetic vitamin or mineral in a pill or added to food, is as good for you as natural vitamins and minerals found naturally in the food, and consumed in natural food. Others will tell you that is not so. That you get more from eating the actual food. We don't know who is right, but in that lack of knowledge, would think eating a healthy diet of colorful and varied plant food and meat makes for a healthy diet, human or pet. In pet food this is sometimes called a Holistic Approach to Pet Nutrition. A holistic approach focuses on preventing disease, for which complete, sound nutrition - absent allergens - is essential. Natural foods, carefully chosen are the basis of this approach.
