New Pet Food Rating Page

We have done a lot of research on pet food since we put the product on our website.
BreedersChoice and Natures Logic Dog and Cat Food

A new page, Pet Food Ratings, we think does a pretty good job of consolidating a lot of the information on the internet about the quality of various pet food brands. Choosing the Best Dog Food or Cat Food for Your Pet can be a problem with so many brands out there. You can do your own research but we suspect you will find in a nutshell what You will find on at our Pet Food Ratings page.

You can also Buy Virtually any Dog or Cat Pet Food Brand you prefer, at our website, from Pet Food Direct, a major retailer of all brands. We recommend Breeders Choice and Natures Logic

5 Main Resources - were used in our research, but well over 100 sites were visited and read. See all the sources at: Internet Research Sources

The 5 Main Resources were:

Whole Dog Journal - (not free, click the link to learn access) Best Overall Resource: each year gives a list of good dog food brands. Detailed, thorough. Lists ingredients and gives website addresses for manufacturers. Just stick with it. Lists each food's ingredients.
Dog Food Analysis - (free- click the link, and then see: "CLICK HERE TO SEE THE REVIEWS"). Very Particular, Detailed, Finicky Resource: rates Premium Dog Foods from 6 stars to 2 stars. Lists each food's ingredients, with comments/judgment.
Good Dog Magazine - (not free, click the link to learn access) Timely Information Throughout the Year: reports on many subjects, including Dog Food.
Progressive Animal Welfare Society (free, click the link) - Strict and Different. Rates pet foods on a Scale of 1-10 (10 is high); 9-10 for food in the wild eaten by your pet in his wild state; 8 for food you cook/make for your pet. Commercial pet foods are all rated 7 and lower. At right are Brands rated at 6-7 and therefore, "acceptable."
Animal Protection Institute (free, click the link) - Investigative Report/Fact Sheet. Solid report on the pet food industry. Bottom line: caveat emptor! Do your research before you buy.

Is Premium Dog Food Really Better? Yes ! And Cheaper to Feed in the long run. See the details here: Good Dog Magazine.

BEAR IN MIND: Each breed is different, each pet is an individual. Many are finicky as to what they will eat, and react to, health-wise. You might have to "buy and try" from the brands recommended by the researchers, to find "The 1, 2 or 3" your pet will eat and react well to; but at least with this resource you have a starting and finishing point for truly great pet food. Whole Dog Journal seems to provide the best list of acceptable good dog food brands. The most recent List we have is at Right.

From our site you can buy just about any dog food on the market, at Pet Food Direct Shop and Buy Page
(the default is to Breeders Choice and one of its Premium Brands, AvoDerm), but you can choose any brand you prefer from our page. Virtually every brand on the Market, is available at great prices. Use the "Search For" box and name your brand: .

A brand we recommend -- Natures Logic -- is not on any of the lists. It is a relatively new company and it is the first line of pet food in which all categories of products contain 100% food and excludes all chemically synthesized nutrients. All vitamins, minerals, and trace nutrients found in all Natures Logic products are derived 100% from food.

Types of Dog Beds

Which Type of Dog Bed To Get?
The Classic is the Pillow Dog Bed
- It is usually round, oval or rectangular. Nest Dog Beds provide cozy retreats, usually some type of snuggle appeal for smaller dogs and cats, sometimes a backrest. Many larger dogs prefer a Bolster Dog Bed or Pet Sofa with the bolstered back and sides for easy resting.
Specialty dog beds are Waterproof ones, Orthopedic Dog Beds, which use medical grade foam to add extra support for older and disabled dogs, and Outdoor Dog Beds, which are tough and water-resistant.
And then there is what you like: many dog owners like designer luxury pet beds for their home, as they are much like the quality of furniture.

Dog Bed Fill:
Snoozer uses primarily spun polyester and cedar flaxes/bits for odor control and insect repellent features. You can be assured that all Fillers used in a Snoozer bed are high quality and meant to last. Some, like orthopedic beds include foam -- both regular foam and memory foam - this makes a top quality bed for your dog.
What is memory foam? It's denser than regular foam - but unlike the name suggests, it does not hold any memory. It will retain its original shape and will not mat after long use. It's amazing! Originally used by NASA in the space program.

Does Size Matter?
It does to you and so too it does to your dog. Too small is always wrong! The filling in pillow beds and the bolsters on pet sofas cause the bed to "draw up" from its advertised diameter. If you are in doubt, select a larger size - in most cases the price is not much more.

Compare Our Lookout Dog Car Seat and Other Named Alikes

Compare Our Snoozer Lookout and Others:

Snoozer Lookout Dog Car Seats

Our Lookout(TM) and "Theirs" - (Other Look-ALikes and Similar Named) Dog Car Seats

Ours was the first (since 1994) and is patented. It has steadily become more widely known and popular. There are now many copy cats, and similar named products. But there are major differences between ours and those who copy us. And reasons our Lookouts(TM) are better.
We are aware there are other products trying to copy our Lookout(TM) -- Copy It in Name, and/or in appearance and function. You should ask the following questions before you decide on your choice.

1. Safety: Our Lookout is fastened to your car's seat by the lap part of the seat belt, as a person would be. Your pet is then "fastened" to the seat belt via a strap (we provide) which attaches from the seat belt to the harness on your pet. Nothing is perfect, but this is reasonably safe for your pet, and we think, far safer than anything offered elsewhere on the market. Other products may hang it over the top of the car seat, or may fasten the product from behind the product to the seat, (like tying a person to the seat from his back) and then your pet is linked to the car booster seat itself, -- ours fastens the product in front, as you would a person, and your pet is then fastened to the seat belt. Bottom line: which do you think is safer?
No other products fasten that Booster Seat to the car seat and your pet to the seat belt, like our Lookout(TM) and its strap. That is a patented feature.
2. Washable: Do you want to be able to wash the seat cover after it has been used for a period of time? The Lookout has a removable, washable, and replaceable cover. You can wash it frequently, with care. You can buy replacements when the cover does wear out, and not have to replace the whole product.
3. Fit: Does your pet weigh over 10 lbs? Our Lookouts can accommodate a very small pet of tiny up to a 30 pound pet and can hold several pets in the many sizes on our various model Lookouts.
4. Made in the USA: Do you want to support overseas manufacture? Our Lookout is domestically produced; many of our competitors' are not.
5. Convenient add-ons for Travel: Do you want to be able to attach a water and food tray for your pet to use during long trips? The Lookout has this option.
6. Storage: Do you want to have storage in the Dog Car Booster Seat? The Lookout gives you that option and a price difference for it. Don't need it, don't pay for it.
7. Price & Choice: You will not pay more for all the advantages of the Lookout, in fact, our price at this website (Quality Pet Supplies - www.snoozer-dog-beds.com ) is almost always less than many of our competitors' products, and the Lookout(TM) is much, much more versatile, with many more choices for your particular pet's size & your needs. And has many more color choices to match your taste.

Are some brands really better than others? Is Premium Dog Food Really Better? Yes is the answer to both questions, and it's also less expensive in the long run to feed premium food. Why? You use less of the Premium over time, for greater nutritional value, and in the end, save money. You also have less poop to clean up. Premium saves you money and time. See the details here: Good Dog Magazine, on line research on cost per feeding of dog food

At our new webpage : BreedersChoice and Natures Logic Dog and Cat Food

We offer only two brands that we are confident give you value for the dollar you spend in terms of nutrition that meet good dog magazine's research. We are sure there are other deserving brands to offer but in lieu of researching them all, we just feel these two offer what our customer's need and deserve.

This is a short explanation of a very complicated subject on pet nutrition. We are not veterinarians, nor doctors, nor pet nutrition experts. However, what we explain below we have gathered from a lot of reading on the subject.
In their natural state, dogs and cats are carnivores. Which means, simply that they eat meat. Meat from prey. That prey may be small rodents, rabbits, squirrels, or birds, or larger mammals or fish. That leads many of us to think they need only meat or that meat should be the most important part of their diet. However, when the carnivore eats a prey, he eats all of it, or as much as he can: to be plain, and perhaps unpleasant, not just the flesh, but also the bones, the stomach, other organs, and the blood. In those other organs, including the blood and the stomach, and bones he consumes nutrients from any plant food the prey ate, and sometimes consumes undigested plants. And many of those prey do eat plants.
The plant nutrients are consumed when the wild carnivore eats all the animal -- So, plant nutrition is a part of the dog or cat's diet in the wild. It is important.
When we were young our Mother fed the family pets from table scraps. Today many in pet nutrition would tell you that represents an unhealthy, and un-balanced diet. And that's probably true, if you take the diet of many Americans today. But when we grew up our diet was heavy on whole grains, vegetables and fruits, and low on meat. And it was varied. Not the same thing every day. Somehow our pets lived a long, and healthy life with few, if any health problems, feeding on table scraps.
Also, some doctors, and nutrition experts will tell you that a synthetic vitamin or mineral in a pill or added to food, is as good for you as natural vitamins and minerals found naturally in the food, and consumed in natural food. Others will tell you that is not so. That you get more from eating the actual food. We don't know who is right, but in that lack of knowledge, would think eating a healthy diet of colorful and varied plant food and meat makes for a healthy diet, human or pet. In pet food this is sometimes called a Holistic Approach to Pet Nutrition. A holistic approach focuses on preventing disease, for which complete, sound nutrition - absent allergens - is essential. Natural foods, carefully chosen are the basis of this approach.
